DEBATE: Technology has changed family relations

(introduction, argument 1):

A powerful tool, that contemporary society uses not only to entertain but also to communicate and educate is “Technology”
However, there’s no doubt technology within family life has its conflicts.
Technology can have a positive and negative effect on family closeness, it’s basically depends on their use.
We live in an era where communications make life easier: cell phone, chat, the Internet, social networks, etc., a group of innovating advances have made our daily lives a wealth of possibilities that did not count our ancestors.
Technology in today’s world offers a plethora of ways to communicate effectively, so that every member of family can keep in touch, from text messaging, skype, webcams, facebook, twitter and e-mails, the facilitation of communication has never been more available and we must take advantage on it.

(argument 2 rebuttal):

The irony of our time is that even though we have all the possible systems and many ways to connect, people feel more distant of their family.
Children in the world interact less  with their families and spend more  time in their rooms watching television, connected to the Internet and playing on the computer (technology in their hands). Many of the children seem to be living now a great isolation from their family, apparently to the advancement of technology.
New technologies: computers, internet and video games have replaced the family comunication.
We must be aware that we can not go against the technology, so the solution is in our hands. Rules, can help us to get a healthy relationship with our family. Children must understand that technology is a tool not a permanent way of life.
It is also important to consider the following guidelines in order not to lose family cohesion:
• No child should have a computer in their room. Computers should be located in common places such as the living room and study room.
• The connection times assigned to each member of the family must be respected
• There must be a schedule and a time of connection that is based on the age of each child.

• Breakfast, lunch and dinner is a time of disconnection and meeting.
• They must not provide any personal data through the Internet.
However of these rules, it is important not to lose sight of what children are doing during the time they are connected to the internet

(argument, rebuttal):

Consequences of excessive use of technology:
1.-Stress. When you connect to the Internet as soon as you get home, the brain does not have time to relax after the day's activities; This generates a stress that can affect your concentration.
2.-Sleep. Using a laptop or mobile device at night can seriously affect sleep patterns.
3. Insulation. Excessive use of technology can lead to isolation while having the illusion of being real connections with others.
 4. Aggressiveness. The excesive use of internet can increase the rudeness and insensitivity.
5. Anxiety., When you need to be connected more and more time, you can even get addicted.

Conclusion:

The computer and the internet can be a good resource for developing the abilities and intelligence of our children as it provides them with many learning moments, but it is important to do it in a dosed and responsible way.
"The influence of technology on family dynamics is remarkable, but if there is a good level of communication, the technology is positive. On the other hand, if communication is bad, technology can distract the members of the family.
Technology is part of daily life, but for our mental health you should not abuse of it and you should reduce its use.

DEBATE: Are single sex schools more effective than co-ed schools?

Arguments around single-sex schooling can be highly emotive. However, perception is not always the reality. To put it simply, there are good single-sex schools but there are also some pretty poor ones. The same applies to coeducational schools.       David Robertson, headmaster at Shawnigan Lake School, a coed boarding high school in BC , says boys and girls ultimately have a more enriching educational experience when they get to learn together. "There's a cross-pollination that goes on in the academic environment," Robertson says. "The diligence and attentiveness of girls positively affects boys, while the liveliness of boys inspires girls. They learn from and are inspired by each other." Coed schools better prepare girls and boys for post-secondary school and employment by providing ongoing opportunities to work together, he adds. "They learn to work together productively, which is what they will be expected to do throughout their life. So the...

DEBATE: Which is more complicated gender: men or women

Being a woman is absolutely harder. In a developing country, this is pretty obvious. Women typically lack freedom in many respects, to the point of being blamed for being raped. But, even in a developed country, there are many disadvantages to being female: 1.          Women perform 66% of the world's work and produce 50% of the food but earn only 10% of the income and own just 1% of the property. 2.          Despite progress, men still outnumber women in paid work, and women are often relegated to vulnerable forms of employment, with inadequate earnings, benefits and working conditions. 3.          Every 90 seconds, a woman dies in pregnancy or due to childbirth-related complications. That is more than 350,000 deaths each year, 99% of which occur in debeloping countries: nearly all are preventable. 4.       ...

DEBATE: Are textbooks obsolete?

Textbooks are artifacts which authors pour thousands of hours into creating and are a wealth of knowledge.  Their format is precisely what was intended by the author and publisher to convey a message efficiently.  However, advanced textbooks may be unreadable by a student without the help of a teacher.  The teacher is heavily reliant on the textbook to teach a class, and if the student can't read the text by the end of the class, something went wrong.  After all, it takes a semester just to figure out what the stuff in the book means, and you're supposed to spend more hours outside of class studying than in class, so that's a lot of time spent with a book for one particular subject.        But it’s about more than just thrills and fun. Today, technology in schools is helping students to grasp complex subjects by allowing them to interact with educational content in a way that best suits them. Not only does this approach lead to increa...
